1/11/21 - It's a good thing you're pretty

It's been a fun week in Aberdeen! It was transfers week and I am staying! I'm glad though, I love the people here. On Wednesday we drove up to Jamestown to pick up Sister Fonotoe, but once we arrived we got a call from the t-bus (transfer bus) that they were 3 hours behind. So Sister White and I got to explore Jamestown for a bit! In the prairie there's not much to look at, so the roadside attractions are giant statues of random things. In Jamestown they have a giant Bison so it was fun to go see. Who would have ever thought that the highlight of my week was looking at this giant bison. Living in a small town will do that to you.  Also- I hit my 2.500 mile since I've been here. It's ridiculous how big this mission is.

Sister Fonotoe is my Somoan princess! She was supposed to go home in November but right as she was about to fly home they closed the border to Samoa so she was sent back and she is currently serving her 20th month... But we love her! For the first few weeks she called me Sister Bilangie. (means white person) But I love her. You bet your buns I'm going to visit her when I'm finished here.  She brought out her lavalava and was trying to teach us how to dance, but we've decided to leave the dancing to the islanders. She taught us a Samoan Hymn! (Folofola Mai 'a Sisu) and we are going to sing it in zone conf.

We finally got to meet our friend, Mrs. Manywounds. She was excited to have us come and literally led the whole lesson.  She was asking about if the church had any apps she could study from and if there was a way she could involve her grandkids. She loves the idea of her family growing up with knowledge of Jesus Christ! We are excited to teach her and her family.

hey mom stop reading here... We got a referral and tried calling her.  She answered and I guess it was a wrong number but we then decided to visit the address that was given. The home was only 20 minutes away so not too bad. We get off at the exit and it's a super dim lit town called Mina. It's basically an abandoned silo farm and there was this house in the middle, so we drove up and prayed for guidance. We got sketchy vibes but figured we wouldn't stay long. So we knock and immediately the spirit said 'RUN" and all three of us book it and this angry guy runs out of the garage yelling something in Russian to us and then we jump in the car as he comes after us and we ZooOOoMed. We were safe, and now I'm traumatized of ever visiting a referral ever again. We know how dumb we are.  We prayed for guidance and still got out of the car. Lesson learned..

Mom read this instead! I had some super great study time this week! Go listen to "Converted Unto the Lord" from Elder Bednar. I think this is my new favorite talk! My favorite thing I learned from it is that when we are truly converted to the Lord we will put down all our weapons of rebellion and will be filled with light! I love the thought that when we are really, truly, converted to the Lord we will have no want to rebel. It is a mighty change of heart! I've learned that the difference between testimony and conversion is that testimony is personal accountability and brings a source of Joy, assurance, and purpose. Conversion is a COMMITMENT of becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ.  What a good goal to forever be converted unto Jesus Christ. I was reading  "Jesus the Christ" and it never occured to me, but the world's calendar dates revolve around Christ's birth. (ex, 123 BC...) even those not of our faith use it as a point of time.

Yesterday Elder and Sister Gong had a Devotional and I needed the reminder to SLOW DOWN. Sometimes I try to move too quickly but if I can learn to slow down I will learn to enjoy the journey. He encouraged relationships that will change our future. It took me a bit to wrap my mind around that. His example was of how the missionaries that taught his mother changed her and her families future. It will be fun to think about that this week.

I better explain the subject line.. we had a zoom call with one of the members of the ward about Facebook and as we were organizing we forgot one of the highlighted notes and she told us "It's a good thing you're pretty". Not the first time or the last that we will hear that. (S/O to the Ludlows!)

I wish I had more to share for this week. But I hope you all are chillen enjoying the sunshine. Send some vitamin D my way hahah

Challenge: Pray for missionary opportunities! My family would do this when I was younger and it was amazing that when you ask for it, opportunities will come! Tell me how it goes!
