11/28/21 Family Letter

Hey eve!!! This week was really fun!!!
Hyrum's closing night of Mama Mia was fun!! He did so well!
Thanksgiving was really fun!!!! It felt really weird because not all the fam was there.
Siblings day was fun. We missed you alot though. We went bowling and played video games.
I had Friendsgiving on Saturday. I have found out that most girls my age are really dramatic and are addicted to drama.
So I invited all guys , + cece. It was so much fun!!! no drama at all! That's kind of the new friend group now.
I TOOK AT THREE HOUR NAP ON SUNDAY!!!! It felt really good! Also I definitely almost broke my finger.
I was trying to move my chair back to young womens and my chair folded as I tried to sit down.
My figure started to bleed. I'm fine now but it was nerve racking at the time.
LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!

It was supposed to be an easy week, but it was most definitely not. I was very busy the first two days with the closing night of the musical and another school day. My voice is still slightly broken from that. Wednesday was nice and relaxing but short lived. Thanksgiving was tiring but fun, and the Friday after that was busy with setting up Christmas at our house and at Barlow grandparents house. and then we went straight to the sibling day thing. Emma is very high strung and I would say it was slightly very much stressful. So it was a nice experience, but I'm very tired again. Saturday was alright too, but still very tiring. I'm pooped, but I gotta go to school tomorrow and face the fallout of the musical being over and the classes I've missed and all the things I'll have to do now. here we go.

We may be tired and beaten and laid low by the world, but we carry on anyway. We are the soldiers of the lord.

Sweet Eve,
How are you hangin' in there?  We pray for you every day!  I love to hear about your interactions with the members.  How was your Thanksgiving?

This has been a very strange week...it feels like Hyrum's show was ages ago, but it wasn't!  I'm really proud of that guy...he was high-energy on stage and put his heart into his performance.  He was so fun to watch.  He did this all while battling sickness and no voice.  I respect him even more because shortly after he got sick, I got his sickness and I've been down flat for 2 days.  I stayed home from church today...but while I did, I took the time to memorize the new YW theme.  That was a very special experience as I started to understand the power and meaning behind those words.  If you ever have the opportunity to share that theme with the female population, there is power!

Our house is decorated for Christmas now.  It's been fun to decorate around the new fireplace.  It looks cozy.  And....for the first time in the history of our Barlow family....we have Christmas lights on our house!  It looks so good!  I hired a company to put them up, take them down and store them for us between seasons.  I will send you a picture.  (Notice the North Dakotah flag in the window?)

Do you have some fun plans for "Light the World with Love"?  I would love to hear some of your ideas.

For me, this weeks starts combined orchestra.  I have the music room at school set up with all the stands and chairs, labeled with names of all the students/stand partners.  I am so limited in my time to rehearse with them that I am trying to be as efficient as possible.  Wish me luck!

I wish you luck on you upcoming week.  We love you so much!
💜 Mom

Millie,

I hope you are having a great P-Day!  We saw the picture of your Thanksgiving plate.  It looks like you did OK.  We did OK too.  It was crowded and loud.  We got the Christmas decorations up.  Mom is very happy to have another mantel to decorate.  She paid for someone to put lights up this year.  She is very proud of her lights.

We talked twice last week so there is not much to report.  We just had the Sisters over for a correlation meeting.    I had to provide one of them a pep talk.  They have a baptism of a 9 yr old coming up and the greenie is feeling like the baptism should go the way she is imagining it.  We are trying to counsel her to let the family decide how it should go.  She felt a little ganged up on and we had to discuss how to take correction without taking it personally.  I hope it was helpful.

This is a big week for Mom.  She is coming off a cold and trying to get the kids ready for an Orchestra concert and Choir concert.  I'm sure she will get them ready.  Hyrum is starting his Christmas concerts.  We reminded him that when they throw their Madrigal party they can't take all the decorations needed for the Orchestra Concert.  It will be interesting to see how busy he gets.  It feels like he is improving.  I reviewed with him some scripture references that came to mind as we chatted.  Nephi called himself a "wretched man".  I asked Hyrum what that sounded like.  He said "It sounds like me".  I suggested that when Nephi wrote this he was likely depressed.  Joseph in Liberty Jail "Why hast thou forsaken me?"  Joseph was depressed in jail.  Enos wrestled before God.  If God gives forgiveness freely than who was he wrestling with.  Likely himself . . . because he was depressed.  I reminded him that great men have been depressed and found a way out of it.  It happens to a lot of people.  Elder Holland shared with us that he has battled depression.  I hope that taking a break from the musical will help him a bit.

Love you kid.  We pray daily that you will find a family to teach and that your companion will get to go to France.  Good luck this week!

Love,

Dad
