1/3/21 - Family Letter

heyo Eve!

Happy new year!!!!

This week I went ice skating with a couple of friends, it was really fun! We also saw an online musical " Ratatouille" trust me, you didn't miss much. Other than that it has been a pretty mello week. Sami slept over last night. It was really fun! I kind of don't wanna go back to school but anyway... How has your week gone? I'm currently making a poster for the new Yw coming in. I think it looks good! Anyway, I hope I'll be able to see you on Monday!

xoxo- Mari

Greetings

Happy 2021. Hopefully. I don't wanna go back to school. I failed a math test I had to take over the break, and now I have to retake it, so wish me luck. Not much else has happened. I have my Chick-Fa-La interview tomorrow, so that's cool. Can you just pray for my success this week? That would make me feel much better. Love you

Sweet Eve,

Brother Scott, from the Ward needs to know the scripture you want on your missionary plaque.  I seem to remember that you already did this, but they seem to need it again. Do you have a preference of which picture we use on that plaque?

From you pictures on the google photos, I see that you got your cello!  The Carrs are very nice people.  I got them a $75 gift card to Walmart to thank them for transporting your stuff.  I also thanked Sister Carr for taking such good care of the missionaries.  She said that the Relief Society loves the missionaries and is always looking out for them.  Sounds like they have an organized system to make sure you are all looked out for.  I love Relief Society!

I sure love President and Sister Howell!  They are so good about sending emails to all the families to keep us updated on some of the things about your mission.  This week he sent an invitation to join your mission in a fast for all those who are willing to let God prevail in their lives.  We did that today!  He also sent some scriptures that he suggested we read slowly to really ponder their meaning.  It was powerful!  He also mentioned the success your mission is having.  What a blessing!

This last week of Christmas Break has been good.  Not too much going on.  We saw the new Wonder Woman movie.  I really liked it! I also took Mari and CeCe ice skating at the Olympic Oval in Kearns.  Some of their guy friends organized it and were going to meet them there.  I stayed to chaperone (I tried to stay out of their way by sitting in the bleachers working on Carden stuff).  It ended up that only 2 boys came...so it would've been like a double date except, the boys were skating so fast that they were never with the girls.  It's a good thing since Mari's not 16 yet!  Mari is responsible.  Even though she's really giggly around us, she does not lose her focus when she needs to keep it in those types of situations.  She was very wise.  I appreciate your and Emma's good example to her so she knows how to be responsible.

I have mixed feelings about going back to our normal schedule tomorrow.  I love spending time with the family.  I keep telling myself that regular schedules are necessary and helpful.  I do miss my students...but I hope they're not too crazy.

Oh yes!  We painted Dad's office a really pretty light blue.  It suits him!  I'm excited for him to purchase some wall art and furniture to complete the project.  I think he decided on a beautiful painting of the Anti-Nephi-Lehites as they are kneeling in prayer, waiting for their brethren, the Lamanites to come and attack them.  It is a powerful work of art!

I hope you like the things we sent you!  If you are collecting too many things, you can always ship some things you don't need back home, give them away, or leave them with others who need them. We don't want to bog you down, but we want you to feel loved and comfortable.  I hope you enjoy the "Jesus the Christ" book.  Since you left, I have been reading that book again.  I felt directed to read/study about Christ's ministry (middle of the book) and record my impressions relating to ministering to others in His way.  I have found some beautiful insights, even in the footnotes and notes at the end of each chapter.  That book is yours to mark up and record what you learn.  I would love to hear your insights!

How do you like the 2021 Come Follow Me Doctrine and Covenants? I want to add my personal testimony about the D&C.  It was the first book of scripture I read all the way through when I was young.  I LOVED it!  The language was easier to understand than the other scriptures and I felt like it was speaking directly to me. I loved learning about the Last Days and our part in it!  Slowly I gained a testimony about Joseph Smith and the power of the restored gospel! There is lovely truth found in this modern book of revelations!

I hope you have a wonderful week.  We love you so much!  Thank you for serving a mission.  Our family is blessed for your service, goodness and example.

Millie,

How cold is it really?  I hope you are acclimating OK.  That is the main question we get about you is your weather.  I hope we have spent enough money to keep you warm.  How is it having Sister White to yourself?  I noticed that the last few pictures were of just the two of you.  I was wondering how things would change when you mix up the companionship.  We met your Bishop and his wife.  They seem like good people.  I'm glad you found a way to get the cello to you.  You seem to be very happy to have it.  I hope you enjoy the other things we sent you.  I look forward to chatting with you about them.

Very low key week here.  Having the whole week off the days blend together.  We painted the room a dusty blue.  I'm looking into art work and considering options.  I want to have a reading chair in there.  Once we moved the desk I noticed how small that room is.  It makes a lot of noises too.  I pulled up the carpet thinking we might have insects of some kind.  The best I can tell it with the room being above the garage it has to deal with the changing temperatures.  We will take some pictures when we are done.

I failed my last test for the CFP.  This is not the main test, just the test over the Estate Planning section.  I think I was distracted with the Holiday and the week off work.  I had two tries.  I missed it the first try by 2 questions.  On my make up I missed it by 5 questions.  I don't know what they are going make me do now.  They promised a guarantee pass.  I have delayed the main test until July.  I'm glad my job does not depend on if I pass or not.  I'm sure once I open my email tomorrow they will have something I can do to get a passing grade.  I still have to complete my case study.  I didn;t have the heart to get into it.  That is a problem for this next week.

I spent the week trying to organize our pictures.  I think I lost all our pictures for 2019 including our trip to Savannah.  I can't find them.  I hope they turn up somewhere.  I got your phone and attempted to download all the pictures you have on there.  It was interesting to see all your Messenger messages come through as I was working on your phone.  I might complete that project by the time you get home.  I will try anyway.

Keep doing good work kid.  We fasted for you and your Mission today.  We hope you have success and feel fulfilled.  We are seeing more missionaries going back to their original assignments.  It will not be long and the mission will be back to what it was before the virus.  It will be interesting to see how the mission springs back and keeps some social media component.  You are doing a great work.

Love,

Dad
