1/17/21 - Family Letter to Sister Barlow

Dear Eve

I know:

That Christ lives, and is the son of God

That Joseph Smith was a true prophet and that the Book of Mormon is a true record

That I can't think of anything I don't know about the church, but that when I do, I'll do my best to find the answer. If I can't, then so what? I know what I need to. Anything else is either unnecessary or unimportant. Do I know why women can't have the priesthood? No, but I know that God knows, and that's enough. Riverton got quarantined again, so that's not fun. I have some friends who have been asking about the church for years. I've answered their questions, and told them to talk to the missionaries. That might go somewhere. I get tested bi-weekly now, because of Matilda. So that's a blessing. This isn't flowing very well, so i'm going to bed.

Love you!

Hyrum

hello!!!!!!

I know that the church is true, I know that heavenly Father forgives,  I know that the book of Mormon is true, I know that heavenly Father loves me,  I know that heavenly Father has a plan for me, I know that families are forever. This week has been a roller coaster! The new quarter starts this week( and we're online, I don't get why they can't just let us have it off) I have all new teachers online and I have no idea what to expect, wish me luck!  Today Patriarch Tibbits gave a talk about Patriarchal blessings and I might get mine soon but I'm going to give it more thought tho. Newsies practice is going great! made some new friends! it's starting to feel a little bit more like a family(kind of). We watched some of your videos. we got to talk about your butt slapping. Any who can't wait to see you tomorrow!

ps:mom and I are doing only one treat a day if you want to join.

 Love you lots!

the Fuzziest of heads:)

Cute Eve,

We were laughing so hard at all your attempts to sing that Samoan Hymn...especially the butt slap! That's the Eve that we all know and love!  That hymn was so beautiful!  Isn't it interesting that you still get a taste of the island culture you love, even in South Dakota?  I find it ironic that Emma's 16 year old trip was to NY, a huge city, and she gets called to Sao Paulo, a huge city, which she loves? Your 16 year old trip was to Hawaii where you fell in love with the Polynesian culture...and here you are in SD learning a bit of Samoan!

Here's what I know!

Jesus is the Christ, my Savior, my best friend. I can't wait for Him to be the KING!

Heavenly Father is wonderful! He has so much love and kindness for me and you!

The Holy Ghost is my best companion and speaks with the sweetest voice.

The Book of Mormon is my favorite book, followed closely by the other scriptures.

Joseph Smith is a true prophet who opened this dispensation and ushered in the restoration of the gospel in the fullness of times.

We have prophets today who speak the words of God to us today.

The Restoration of the Gospel is ongoing...and WE are a big part of it...It's so exciting to be alive right now!

My family is wonderful-all of you are my favorite people.  It would be a privilege to spend eternity with all of you!

Gaining knowledge is important so that we can be useful in His kingdom.

The Temple is a Holy Place that we should always be worthy to enter.

Searching out/helping our ancestors by finding them, organizing their records then doing their ordinance work is IMPORTANT! I can't wait to meet them, our guardian angels!

Although we all fall short of who He knows we can be, He can still use us to help build His kingdom.

My greatest desire is to help build His kingdom.  🎵COME LORD JESUS!

As far as Missionary experiences:  I think Missionary=MInistery. I was assigned a new ministering companion, Sister Muhlestein.  We are still visiting Jory but also Hilary Anasco.  Hilary is new to the ward, barely pre-covid shut down.  I know we were assigned to her in the nick of time.  For example, I was able to contact her for the first time on Thursday.  On Friday she had a baby (that wasn't due until Monday).  All is well with her baby but now we can be aware of her needs and show her love in a timely way.  She named her baby "Isaac Lyle"  cute! I hope we can help her feel welcome and loved in her "new" ward!

Fun times in nature:  Dad and I went cross-country skiing with Emma and Matt on Saturday.  We are all really stiff/sore! I tweaked my back something awful!  I didn't hurt it skiing...I hurt it  while putting on my ski-shoes.  Instead of sitting down to put them on, I put them on while balancing on one foot and hopping up and down.  Not a smart move for a 45 year old lady! Skiing was really fun anyway!  I'm hoping to take Mari and Hyrum downhill skiing sometime this winter.  Dad says he doesn't want to go.  No worries!  Maybe we all can go when you get back!

My orchestra concert went well.  My favorite song was "Christmas Eve Sarajevo" by Trans-Siberian Orchestra.  We even had an electric guitar!  It was fun to be playing in a group again, instead of leading it.

I hope you have a wonderful week.  Remember you are an important part of the work there in SD.  You matter to the Lord!  He knows you are there and He will put people in your path that you can make a difference in their lives.  His children are all around you!  I pray that you will have eyes to see as He does!

Love you forever!

💜 Mom

Millie,

Here is what I know:

I have a loving Heavenly Father and Mother.  They are concerned for me and want me to do whatever it takes to be reunited with them.  They have provided me a Savior that has provided a path for that reunion.  My Savior, Jesus Christ, knows all the problems and concerns I deal with.  He is willing to assist me with my problems, teach me all the gospel principles needed and will help me fix my shortcomings.  He is my older brother and my friend.  He has never failed me.  I know Joseph Smith is his Prophet to restore the church in the latter days.  I know that he, with the help of many, translated the Book of Mormon.  The Book of Mormon is the most correct book on the earth.  I have been drawn closer to the Book of Mormon this past year than ever before with the help of the Come Follow Me program.  I know that the heavens are open and we receive revelation today.  We have a Prophet who leads this church and is inspired as to what we need in the world today.

We went cross country skiing yesterday with Matt and Emma.  It was a challenge.  We all fell a lot and are hurting today.  Matt struggled the most and kept moaning about how he wished he was downhill skiing.  All of our injuries were external and Matt's were all internal.  It was fun once we figured it out.  Mom tweaked her back real good but not my falling while skiing.  She tweaked her back putting on the special shoes.  We attempted lunch and had a rough experience in Park City.  I gave a scathing Yelp review.  Last night Eliza asked to come over and have dinner.  It is her Birthday this week and she wanted to get out of the house.  It was good to be around family.  Mom got to hold Sunshine.  She looks like a baby that belongs in a magazine.

I gave my talk today on Living a Future without Fear and it went well.  I love Patriarch Tippets.  He gave a great talk about what we learn from our Patriarchal Blessings. We have one of the members of the High Council catch COVID so I got to give my talk twice.  I found a post on Instagram last night I was so impressed by and took it with me in case I felt impressed to share it.  I shared it for one of my talks.  Mom suggestedI share it with you.  Here it is:

Being discouraged for “frequently falling into foolish actions.” (JSH 1:28).

Man, I can relate to Joseph on this one.It is frustrating to fall short again and again. To see the gap between what you should do and what you actually do.

But God doesn’t have a prerequisite of perfection to do His work.

“God uses imperfect people in imperfect situations to do His perfect will.” (David Young) It’s how it has always been.

“Jacob was a cheater.

Peter was a tempter.

David had an affair.

Noah got drunk.

Jonah ran from God.

Paul was a murderer.

Gideon was insecure.

Martha was a worrier.

Thomas was a doubter.

Sarah was impatient.

Moses stuttered.

Abraham was old.

Lazarus was dead.” (Vetus Ordo).

And yet, those things did not define these people. Christ did.

And so, God’s work continued forward through them. His strength continued in their weakness.

“Imperfect people are all God has ever had to work with. That must be terribly frustrating to Him, but He deals with it.” (Elder Holland).

The point was never “I can’t,” but that Christ can.

And as we continually humble ourselves and turn to Him, as Joseph did, “God has a work for [us] to do.” (JSH 1:33).

God’s Grace was sufficient for Joseph.

And it is sufficient for you.

We are almost done with the office.  I have picked out my art.  We need to get what I plan to call "Tiffany's Chair".  Mom likes to come in and talk when she gets home from work.  I want to get her a comfy chair to sit in for our chats.  We will send pictures once we have it all set up.

Love you kid.  Keep up the good work.  Your videos were very fun to watch.  I lost it when the video started and Sister White was laying down.  Many are cheering for you over here.  Tons of love from Riverton.

Love,

Dad
