1/24/21 - Family Letter to Sister Barlow

HI

This week has been pretty good!

I've been exposed to Covid( again). I am the yw 1st counselor!

I also got a skateboard from a friend this week. Joey had a playdate a couple days back with Elizabeth Fishers Dog Luna. JOEY GOT A HAIRCUT!!!! He is so small now ! I taught the lesson for home and family Church today. I think it went pretty well. It was very hodgepodge. I'm pretty sure that's all that really happened this week.

Yo Ho Matey!

I made a 3 hour playlist of sea shanties, and I'm very proud of it. We were quarantined this week, so not much happened. I start semester 2 tomorrow, so wish me luck! Actually, the only class that changes is theatre 1 becomes theatre 2. But anyway, how are you doing? Have you been eaten by any buffalo yet?

Love ya

Hyrum

Fantastic Eve!

We LOVE the cute card you sent!  You are so cute!  It really did feel like a big hug from you.  A big hug right back at you!  Now that Hyrum can go back to school, he will deliver Charlotte's letter to her.  I know she will love it!

Probably the most exciting thing this week was we bought a comfy chair for Dad's office.  He calls it "Tiffany's Chair" because I sit in it to tell Dad all about my day when I get home from work.  It's a wonderful chair!  It's brown suede leather, overstuffed and reclines.  When I sit in it, Joey jumps in my lap, Dad's heater is on, making everything toasty...and after Dad and I talk, I always fall asleep.  You will love this chair!

Emma and Matt came over for dinner tonight.  We had Chicken Tiki Masala Coconut Curry over Jasmine rice.  It was delish! After, we played a game Mari gave Hyrum for Christmas called "Poetry for Neanderthals''.  It is made by the same people who made "Exploding Kittens".  It comes with an inflatable club to hit a player if he breaks the rules. (You hit them on the head and say "NO!" if they say words with more than one syllable as they describe things for their team-mates to guess)  It's really fun! You actually feel like a Caveman reciting poetry!

Joey has mellowed so much!  He still loves to play but he loves to snuggle even more.  Any time we are sitting down, he is one someone's lap.  It's a good thing he's not very big.  He looks even smaller since his haircut. He actually is on my lap right now as I write to you.🐕

Tomorrow night we are going to Riverton High for the Hope concert (Dave Martin's "BeatALS" band) to support Mari with SBO.  I loved supporting you with this too. If you call Monday evening, what time will you be calling?  We will work around your schedule, even if we have to go out into the hall at RHS.

Have you ever had fresh-squeezed orange juice?  It's a treat, I tell you!  You know how I love to buy cases of oranges this time of year?  Funny story:  I was so excited to find a case of oranges from my favorite grower (Pleasant Oaks Farms) that I bought it without opening the box.  When I got home, expecting to eat a big juicy orange, I opened the box only to discover that these oranges were tiny!  They are smaller than tennis balls (but larger than golf balls).  I had to eat 2 oranges just to satisfy my craving.  At this rate, these oranges would go moldy before we could peel them all. (They are harder to peel than my regular oranges).  I got a brilliant idea to try juicing them.  We only have that hand-juicer so Mari and I got to work...1/2 an orange at a time.  1 hour later we had a pitcher of fresh squeezed orange juice.  I will never be the same. That was the most delicious stuff!  One tiny glass of OJ is all we need to get that "Sunshine" feeling.

I'm sorry I'm rambling about trifles.  It's funny how when schedules aren't full, the smallest things seem big. I've thought a lot about how this pandemic has made all of us able to focus small.  I know that Christ wants us to minister to each other one by one, like He did.  When I pray to Him, I feel He has all the time in the world to listen to me.  I don't understand how this can be, but I love it!

I hope you feel His love for you each day.  I know He loves you even more than we do, and that's a whole lot!  I hope you have a good week.  We miss you, think of you often, and pray for you always!  You are doing a great job on your mission.  Remember that Heaven's measurements are different than Earth's.

Hoorah for Israel!

Love you forever!

💜 Mom

Millie,

I hope you and your comps are doing well and had a fantastic week.  I have been praying for you this week that you will be able to calibrate your desire for obedience and missionary work with the fun that comes with the work.

Not much has happened this week.  I bought a chair for the office.  The chair makes the room feel very small, which it is.  I had your Mom pick out the chair and it is the chair she sits in while we talk about the misbehaving entitled children she teaches.  They are not all that way.  She mentions how several of them are caring and very sweet while the others are like Jack Jack after he bursts into flames.  I call the chair "Tiffany's Chair" as she is the only one who sits in it.  I'm hoping to find time to space out the art and complete the look.

This is last week I have to "practice" before I start my new job for real.  I feel ready.  There are a lot of complicated details I don't fully understand but I know most of what I need to do.  I'm still making my own work as I try to stay busy for one more week.  So far I think this will be far less stress.  I'm working with advisors in the San Francisco area.  I'm still trying to determine how to talk to these advisors.  They are all 20 years younger with 2-3 years experience and feel they know everything.  I feel confident.

Mari somehow convinced us that Joey now sleeps in her room.  Joey is starting to mellow.  He has figured out how to jump on Mom's lap and now thinks he is a lap dog.  He still gets an aggressive bark when he gets really excited.  While on a walk he almost nipped a sweet older lady I didn't know.  She attempted to pet him and he got aggressive.  Whatever, he is not my dog.

Good luck this week kid.  Keep making an effort.  It will be enough.  Remember to smile and laugh.  It will be good for you.  I'm very proud of you.

Love,

Dad
