2/15/21 - that's not our smoke alarm... is it???
Happy "VALIANT servant of the Lord" Day (yesterday) <3
I should start today with explaining my subject line... We have a room in our apartment that is a junk room so Sister White and I spent a few hours cleaning it out. While doing so I came across this smoke alarm that was just sitting there. I didn't think much of it and threw it away. We took out the first round of garbage and left for an appointment. We came back to our apartment and we heard this loud beeping and again, didn't think much of it. We went inside our apartment and we got to work facebook finding and then it hit me. That beeping is the smoke alarm I threw away. Now this beeping was LOUD. I mean really LOUD! We could hear it from inside our apartment! So we book it downstairs and outside hoping to find the bag sitting on top of the garbage pile. Mind you that it was -26 degrees outside so Sister White and I are shivering and we are tearing through these garbage bags until we found the one with the alarm in it. Once we found it we were both in pure panic mode and Sister White SMASHES it on the ground and starts stomping on it repeatedly and with no luck the beeping continues at level 10 volume. Finally we regain our brains and we realise there's probably a switch on the side, which there was, and we turned it off. The whole situation was the most heart racing hectic situation I have ever been in. So life lesson: take out the batteries to smoke alarms before throwing it away...
The winter here has settled in. As I write it's only about -20* which, believe it or not, is not too bad. Definitely colder than the Costco freezer section. But we live! On a sad note, Our new car (Chevy Equinox) got recalled because there is a part inside that freezes solid in the intense cold. We have had no troubles with our car so far, but other cars won't drive faster than 35mph and if you go over they just shut down. So we have been advised to not travel where you could get stranded. Which makes transfers a bit funny. On Wednesday I drive Sister White up to Bismarck so she can go home ;( but I get to pick up my new companions! It should be a lot of fun! I have met one of the Sisters and she is super sweet! We are also getting a new Sister that I get to train! It should be a fun week! We will be safe on the road I promise!
We had exchanges and Sister Worth came to Aberdeen! She is absolutely darling! We were looking at family history and came to find out we are 5th cousins! Small world!
Being a Music missionary is bringing out a whole new area of knowledge that I will need to succumb to. My days are constantly full of "I have no idea what I'm doing" But I do know the Lord does! It is fun to now have projects to constantly be working on. I am just grateful I get to be a part of it. I got another assignment to be the spoke-sister for the music committee in the "missionary social media content" group. I feel very new, still only being 12 weeks old and fresh out of my own training. But we are trying! I understand somewhat what Nephi felt when he was commanded to get the brass plates and had no idea how or what to do.
"I awill go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no bcommandments unto the children of men, save he shall cprepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them."
I was reading a few conference talks this week and I love Thomas S Monson's "See others as they may become" from the 2012 Oct conference! I have started to pray to see people and who they can become in the gospel during lessons and it is changing my whole perspective of them. Everyone has potential! My favorite quote from it is "absolutely nothing in this world that will provide more comfort and happiness than a testimony of the truth"
Have you heard of the Lamanite Promise? Basically, in the last days the descendants of the Lamanites will rise and prosper in the gospel and will be influential in the second coming of the Savior. To put a little sparkle on this: We taught 3 new people who are of Native American descent!
"Called of Him to Declare His Word" from Randy D Funk is a stellar talk. "Without the Spirit, you will never succeed regardless of your talents and abilities".
Being a music missionary is stretching me and is teaching me a lot. But this whole week as I pray to know what the Lord wants me to do in this calling I am assured that in time all will make sense and that the Lord is aware of my worries.
I have a challenge for whoever is willing: Pray for Missionary opportunities! Sometimes it just takes us asking for an opportunity and because it is a righteous desire he will grant it willingly!
I am so grateful for all of you! Stay warm!
