3/21/21 Family Letter
Hiya Eve!
How are you? This week was very crazy! had helped out at petersons for oquirrh fest. One night alone we raised over $500. I also went to a psycho paths birthday party. I did a makeover on her, she hated how it looked so she tried to draw a mustache on me with eyeliner. all the girls held her back. since she couldn't get to me she grabbed a different girl who is allergic to makeup and tried to do it to her. She locked herself and the other girl in a different room so we could help her. The one girl she locked in her room had an allergic reaction but is ok now. ya it was a slumber party and I have never been more thankful that parents don't let me have sleepovers. I babysat for the Gardeners and got $40! I am also an understudy for Specs in Newsies! I'M SO EXCITED THIS NEXT WEEK I GET TO BE DUNKED FOR OQUIRRH FEST!!! Thats fun! and ya that was basically my week. :)
love you lots MB
Eve
How ya doin? You remember when I told you that MDT auditions were last Monday? no, their tomorrow. This last week was Death Week. I had a choir festival on tuesday, a choir concert on wednesday, theatre festivals on thursday, and then prom over all that. I also need to recover my grades from Matilda, so that's a challenge. Prom was fun. The date itself was a blast, and also really hard, because I planned everything. The dance itself was meh, but the date was great. Also, I made history at Riverton!
For theatre regions, we take twenty four groups, or Acts, to a region, with four acts in the six categories. Musical theatre, contemporary scenes, classical scenes, classical monologues, contemporary monologues, and pantomime. You perform at three different times in front of three different judges. Each judge can give you a max of twenty five points, meaning the max you can get over all is 75. to qualify for state, you need to score at least sixty. to qualify for a medal, you have to score 65 or higher. Me and Cameron Kunz did a pantomime and scored 66, but since so many people scored well they had to make the medal score higher, meaning we didn't medal. but we made state! And here's the history making part. Not only did we qualify, but so did everyone else from riverton. All 24 teams qualified. That's never happened before in the history of riverton! My name will be on a trophy in one of the cabinets!
Anyway, wish me luck tomorrow!

Hyrum
Millie,
I hope your traveling worked out OK this week. You have had a going on. So have we. Hyrum had a very busy week. He performed for the Region competition and will be going to State. He was very close the medaling but not quite. Riverton won the all around so he will get his name on a trophy that will be displayed at the school. He is pumped. He also had a choir concert. No solo this time and he did a great job blending. It helped that the Madrigal men joined the choir. He also had Prom this weekend. It was a cloudy day so they did the day date inside at our house. They did Jolly Rancher roses and drew cartoons. They pulled these ideas off the list I made for Hyrum. They didn't catch the vision of the cartoons. They were supposed to draw a one panel cartoon with no captions and then make up captions. They did full 4 panel cartoons with their own caption. The roses worked out well but instead of sitting down they stood while they made them so we now have a very sticky floor. We did dinner in the basement. It was just 4 couples so not a big deal. It went well. Mari had her first babysitting gig and it went well. She had a few stories to tell when she got home and made some bank.
Mom had a great lesson prepared for her classes tomorrow. She found some great songs online about Easter. They happened to be produced by the Church. Just the mention of the Church and the sound of the Prophet's voice got the lesson plan denied so we are scrambling to put another lesson together. Your Mom is amazing and is progressing each week. I'm very proud of her.
I have been in support mode all week. It has been nice to get to help and not have much going on. You have had a lot going on. Keep doing your best. We are excited to see what you missionaries produce.

Sweet Eve,
Dad has been amazing this week. He seems to be everywhere he's needed. I am so impressed with his ability to serve, organize and uplift everyone around him. He's starting to think about his High Council talk for May...subject: Strength and Power of Womanhood. He will do great!
Emma and I went to Lauren's bridal shower. Brendan's mom is part Mexican and cooked some really good food. He comes from a really nice family. His sister served her mission in your mission. We talked about how everything is about 3 hours away, no matter which city you serve in. She served about 3 years ago. It's nice to be able to visit with family a bit more now that more are getting vaccinated. Lauren asked Emma and Matt to MC their reception. Should be the perfect job for them!
Hyrum did a great job with Prom. He said he actually had fun (not necessarily AT the dance, but all the other activities. Anna was a great date for him... really chill. Anna played our special musical number in Sacrament Meeting today. It was a beautiful Marshall MacDonald arrangement of "Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief" It changed keys like 5 times. It was gorgeous!
We found out today that the Matthews family is moving to Alabama this summer! Shock! They said Adrianne will still be going to Utah State but she is not happy about them moving. Alisha will be going to BYU.
Something funny- Today at church when Sister Hanson was playing organ for the opening song, she decided to use a version of the song, not in the hymn book. It was REALLY HIGH! No one could find the notes. I tried singing down an octave but that was weird. Looking out at the congregation I couldn't help but wish the song would just end. No one was sure what to do. What a rocky start to a meeting. After that song, Sister Hanson made eye contact with me and apologized.
Joey says "Hi..woof". He just jumped on my lap...and his head is blocking my hand from typing. Now he's curled up trying not to fall off my lap. Sweet Boi!
Also, we are heading to Charleston, South Carolina on Friday for Spring Break. We will be staying on John's Island. It's a few islands north of Tybee Island; where we stayed when we went to Savannah. Emma and Matt are coming too. Emma wanted to have a "Southern" experience to make up for what she missed while she was on her mission. We will miss you, but we will "show you around" a bit when we get to talk to you next Monday. I expect it will be about the same as we experienced in Savannah. We will be there Mar 26-April 1.
I am so excited for General Conference! Best time of the year!
How have you been feeling about the missionary work you are doing? Have you been able to see the good you are doing? How was your big, multi-day traveling? Have the Dakota's been lifting COVID restrictions? Any word on vaccines? Do you think missionary work will change once COVID restrictions are gone? Does your mission seem different with some of the missionaries going to their assigned missions?
Dad told you I had to change my Carden lesson plan. I felt inspired to do a special Easter lesson. I want to send you the link to my lesson...maybe you can use it. It has 2 object lessons that teach about the Atonement of Jesus Christ and Resurrection. It also has links to 3 Easter videos produced by the church.
I thought this lesson would be approved because it teaches of Christ in (what I thought) a non-denominational way. I guess not. Too bad. I think my students would have benefited from learning more about Christ. I'm disappointed. I thought Carden would embrace Christ more than they are allowing. I was planning on editing out any reference to the Church, keeping the focus on Christ.
Now, I will just hide Easter eggs that have different little melodies to promote Ear Training...meh, but better than nothing.
I love you Eve! I hope all is well and happy with you! We are all very proud of you.
💜 Mom
