3/28/21 Family Letter

Writing from dads phone, so it’ll be short. S. Carolina is fun, and I’m enjoying not worrying about anything for now.

I made MDT

People here are very nice and polite. So far.

Millie,

We were wondering if you got transferred. We assume no news means you are staying put. We have had a week of successes. Hyrum has now made Madrigals, A cappella and MDT. He is on a roll. Mari is beaming with her braces off. Mom is thrilled to have a week off.

South Carolina is similar to Savannah. We are staying in a gated community and access to private beaches. Like Savannah we don’t have any waves to play in. It is warm and humid. Matt and Emma had some challenges getting here. They had a plane that was delayed because they needed to fix a bathroom fan. They missed there connecting flight from Atlanta to Charleston. They had a struggle to get a new flight. They eventually did and it all worked out. The next morning Matt was awarded with the beast lobster Brie omelet he has ever had and he will not stop talking about it. We have not had great food yet. Savannah was a much better food trio. Our place is a good 45 min away from all the restaurants I have researched so we have been eating a local spots that do not show up on Yelp.  We will be going downtown tomorrow and are hoping for something good. We went on a hike today on an abandoned rice plantation that is now a nature preserve that provided some picturesque views. We are driving a Yukon that feels like a tank as we drive down these narrow roads.

Miss you kid. This trip is not the same without you. Keep working hard. We are excited to see what you end up doing with your Mt. Rushmore idea. Keep doing your best. You will be directed to what you should do.

Love,

Dad

Sweet Eve,

I absolutely love seeing the pictures that show up on the Google photo drive! That video that you made of you and your companions trying to sneak around the corner at the church… I assume that’s what you were doing. You are such a fun person! I’m glad to know you’re still a little bit crazy!

Right now we are staying at this cute house on Seabrook Island. The trees here are gorgeous! There is a little old lady who owns this house. She painted all the walls very bright colors and the ceilings bright different colors. All the furniture and decorations are bright and folk artsy style. We laugh because a majority of the pictures on the walls are of really fat old ladies in bathing suits. I will take a picture and send it to you. I think you would chuckle! This place comes with bikes which are fun to ride around the island. We’ve seen two alligators so far. One was a bout 3 feet long crossing the street and another one was about 5 feet long taking a nap in the rice patty that we hiked through. This is beautiful like Savannah was. We miss you and the trip is not the same without you. I’m so glad you got to experience Savannah with us. We will do more trips like this. It’s fun to learn about new areas!

We did sacrament meeting on our own today here at this place. It was very special!  We had a nice discussion about “come follow me” and then I was able to share some things that I had researched about the history of South Carolina in relation to the Doctrine and Covenants. When you get time, check out D&C 87 and 130. Also look at “Revelations in Context” for those sections. Really interesting stuff! The take away from today’s lessons were the importance of standing in holy places. I would issue hat challenge to you as well. Make sure you are in the right place at the right time and that you are creating holy spaces that are able to invite the spirit.

Tomorrow we go into downtown Charleston to look at some historic sites etc. Mari is hoping that we can find some fun things to do and not just history. I gave her the job of researching those things. We’ll see what she comes up with. We just finished playing Happy Slappy. Not my favorite game… Mari’s a bit crazy!

We will make ourselves available  if you  are able to call. I will work on getting a package sent to you with some of your spring clothes in it. Let me know what else you might need. We pray for you daily, multiple times. We love you so much and are very proud of you and the work you are doing for Heavenly Father!

Hoorah for Israel!
