How can it be Monday already?!?!? This week flew!
We got to go to the Bismarck Temple this week! President Howell felt that before they close for cleaning that all the missionaries should go and do baptisms! I feel so lucky to be able to be here. This is a tiny temple, a little smaller than Provo City Center, but it is still a house of the Lord! The T-van would take zones at a time, so it was fun to see friends all throughout the mission! We were asked to bring family names and it was just a wonderful experience. I have missed that celestial feeling that we feel in the temple. When we were finished, one of the Matrons invited Sister Myers and I to walk around and look at all the art work. They have a few pieces of Christ that no matter where you are standing it looks like he is looking right at you and his feet are pointed to you. Another matron was so inspired and invited us to look through the sealing room as well as the brides room. Once we walked in the bride's room she told us we could sit for as long as we like. We must have stayed there for at least an hour. I just never wanted to leave that peaceful place. We had to run to a lesson but as we walked out all the Temple matrons shared their testimonies and Sister Myers and I left to face the world again. We are so lucky to have Temple's here on the earth. While I was in there I was pondering on how much the Lord loves his children. The thought kept coming to speak as kindly to myself as I do to others. "You're my precious daughter too" This goes to all of you too! Forgiving others means forgiving ourselves!
Let me tell you about Nelson. We were at the Library waiting for a friend and we saw him and offered him a sticker. We got talking and he took a Book of Mormon and asked for the address to the church! He is from Kenya and travels a lot for work but was so interested in what our church was. We told him that when he goes home to Kenya he can meet with missionaries there and he LOVED that! He was out of town on Sunday but called us so we could talk more about our church. It was a major blessing considering that we dropped so many people this last week. AH he is so fun! Every text he sends us starts with "I am so proud of you! You are doing God's work!" We love Nelson!
I had exchanges with Sister Christensen! Our STL's are in Bismarck too. It's so weird not having to drive hours to exchange haha. But once we switched, we spent the most productive hour finding on Instagram and I was so grateful to see how she finds cause I still have no clue haha. We then left for a member dinner about 50 minutes out of town. I love the members here. Members are my best friend.
I bore my testimony yesterday in the Bismarck 1st ward. I thought since I was new that I could give an introduction. But aren't we so lucky to have a Savior! We are so blessed that we are not left to live alone! We are so lucky!
Now to explain my subject: I love members. They are my best friends. They are so thoughtful. We have a few families who offer to buy us groceries every few weeks and they are just the sweetest to do so. When I first got here they asked for a list of my favorite foods and at the time I had not had good string cheese for a long time so I added cheese to the list. They always made it known that a pack of Kraft Singles is there for Sister Barlow. I love their willingness to treat us missionaries! I feel so loved! haha but now I have 4 packs of unopened Kraft Singles and I need ideas on what to do with them. Sister Myers thinks it could be cool to make a tower or something... anyways. I love our members! They are so thoughtful and inclusive!
We had a member dinner with one of my favorites this week! It was national pretzel day and to celebrate we had burgers on pretzel buns and GOODNESS they like their burgers big here! One of the sides they provided was a few assortments of pickled items. Pickled beets, pickled green beans, pickled celery, pickled carrots. Basically every vegetable known was pickled. Of course I had to try it and let me tell you PICKLES GREEN BEANS ARE GOOD! They were crunchy and spicy. I thought I was eating my hot pickle from the gas station. The Lord knows me so well. We are so blessed.
I love you all! Pray for the drought! We need rain or no corn this year!
