Your favorite Younger sis...
Mari Barlow✌

Sweet Eve,
What a week!  Mari's friend, Ellie, and her boyfriend, Ocean, were missing all week.  (Ellie was at our house last week).  Last Monday Ellie and Ocean walked away from OHMS after first period.  Search parties were going day and night since then.  Posters about them were all around the city.  There were a few sighting every now and again.  We were going to have a fast for them today...until early this morning THEY WERE FOUND!  We don't have any details about where they were or how they survived the cold weather....but such a blessing.  Ellie and Ocean's parents were sick with worry.  The different news stations interviewed their families but couldn't do much because they were considered "Runaways". There was a strange somber mood over Riverton this week. We are so thankful it ended well.  Mari was a trouper.  She said Ellie only thinks about 5 minutes ahead and is known for making bad decisions.  We hope this experience helped her learn.

Hyrum has also been a champ, giving his energy to "Mama Mia" when he doesn't like what that show represents.  Today he is down with a really sore throat and no voice.  Tomorrow is closing night.  I hope he feels better.  We are also in the process of getting him more counseling and meds for depression.  He could use some prayers right now. We can tell you more about it when we talk to you on Monday. We love our Hyrum.

At Carden this week I am doing the Renaissance Fair with my students. It seems to be a favorite lesson.

I am excited to hear about your plans for Thanksgiving!  Tonight we had a family dinner at Grandma Charlene's and Larry's house.  Every family came!  On Thursday we will have Thanksgiving at Grandma and Grandpa Barlow's.

Tonight the Sister Missionaries of our area were supposed to come over for their meeting with Dad, but they couldn't come because one of the Sisters "swallowed a bone" at their dinner appointment. (This is the Sister from Jacksonville, FL who talks so much).  Apparently she wasn't paying attention to what she was eating and she swallowed that chicken bone which made it hard to breathe...and she "threw up 5 times" (say it all with a Southern accent).  Dad asked if they needed help.  The
Sisters said they needed yellow Gatorade and Cream of Wheat.....so that's what we brought them (Oh, and can you make the Cream of Wheat for us?)  We were happy to help, but these are the wackiest Sisters we've ever met!

I hope you have a wonderful week.  After being around missionaries more, I KNOW you are doing a good job!  I'm really proud of you!
I love you!

greetings traveler
We've almost made it to thanksgiving break. I'm so done with the Mamma Mia. Not only am I sick of the show, but I've also completely lost my voice. And the shows brought my depression to the forefront of my life, so that's not fun.
My week has been spent in a haze of rehearsal, performance, and hospital visits. it's a whole story, but I'll tell you later. I need to rest for closing night tomorrow.
love ya
Hyrum

Millie,

Hope your week was successful.  We have had a crazy week this week.  We had a lot going on.  I got trained for my new Missionary assignment,.  It is good to have a little more direction on what I'm supposed to be doing.  Mom and I went to Hale Canter to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  This ranks as the worst musical known to man.  It makes no sense.  I tried to convince your Mom to leave at Intermission.  We didn't and when the show was over we wish we did.  We went to see Mari's class play which was a challenge.  It being a class play not all the kids are fully engaged.  It was hard to follow.  Mari did a great job.  Several kids decided not to show up an the last second so Ms. Dejesus had to step in and perform which was amazing.  We have been to Mamma Mia 2x now and will go again tomorrow.  We have decided that it is a horrible show.    There are several on stage strip down and dress moments.  One of the guys takes way to long to put his clothes back on.  I see why Hyrum was having such a hard time with the show.  He kept saying how it goes against his core values.  We found this week he ahs slipped back into a depression.  He thinks it was triggered by the show.  He sent some things to his friends that had us very concerned. Tiffany to him to the ER for an evaluation.  We need to find him a therapist and a new primary care physician now that he is almost an adult.  He is doing better now that the show is almost over.

I gave a talk today on Love, Share and Invite.  I did not think it went to well but Tiffany liked it.  She thought it was funny.  I did not put jokes in it . . . I enjoy preparing talks.  I next get to speak in the Portuguese Ward.  Emma will be my companion speaker.  I'm hoping to do my intro in Portuguese.  We will see.

I'm interested in how you plan to spend Thanksgiving.  The Sisters here have been told they can only go to one dinner.  They have a lot of families lined up.  We did not get to have our correlation meeting tonight.  The grennie swallowed a bone and got sick. We did not know if "swallowed a bone" was a Southern phrase for something else but it sounded like she swallowed a bone and had to call it a day early.  We took her some cream of wheat and some sodas from the basement.  We made some fun of Jacksonville.  They are struggling to get some member visits.  Every week they are supposed to have member visits lined up from 8-9:00.  Sometimes it does not work out and they hang out at the church because they can't go home.  The design of these visits is to get the members to think about missionary work and to give the Sisters a positive experience as they end their day.  I have some ideas on how to get this to be a bit more consistent.

Love you kid.  You are doing great work!  We are excited to hear how your new Ward gels and if it spurs more work for you.  Good luck this week!

Love,

Dad
