7/5/21 Those are Some Big heads

Heyo everyone! Happy now 5th of July!

Pretty awesome week! I won the mission lottery and got to go spend the 4th on Mount Rushmore! You may be surprised but we are not allowed to proselyte. Since it's a national park we are allowed to be on the mountain but we can't approach people. They have to approach us. And so make that happen.. We have a booth! Our cute little booth consists of a map with all the temples printed on it from all over the world! We then ask people if they would like to put their name where they are from, and people will line up to get their turn to place their name on their country! And that's the sum of what I've been doing the past week! If you want to make a last minute trip to Mount Rushmore, I'll be up here till next Wednesday! and I'll take the 5.5 hour drive back to Bismarck

I have loved being on the mountain! (Forgive me I know it's not truly a big mountain but it's South Dakota sized). It really has opened my eyes to other people. I have met people from almost every country including Egypt and Saudia Arabia. One thing that really surprised me is that all these people from other countries are jumping at the chance to learn about Temples! Many were so excited to look at the pictures we had and also see the church's website. I did have a few bashers, don't get me wrong. But those who are prepared and ready to learn are really SO READY! Story from yesterday: Close to the close to our shift this lady asked us what church we were from. And just being a bit scarred from past visitors.. I gave our church name but also prepared myself to get bashed, and the lady stopped me and said "don't you say it that way! We need you! *Then she got super close to my face* you be proud of what you believe!" and Left! I was shocked! Definitely not a basher! She was a supporter of all faiths. I have never felt so supported than the many experiences up here where people not of our faith say they are proud of us and are so grateful that we have chosen to serve! How cool, right!?

It's really given me a new perspective and faith in children of God. They are Christlike examples of love and charity!

Things I've learned from the Mountain
#1 All people struggle with geography, some more than most haha
#2 People are so Kind, from everywhere
#3 All moms everywhere will ask if you've put sunscreen on. It's a mom thing I guess

Funny Story: After sacrament meeting Sister Mauer and I drove up to the mountain to start our shift and we met so many members up there! They were super excited to see Sister Missionaries but then apologized for being up here on the sabbath day hahaha. I love people.

We spent the rest of the 4th of July member home hopping. None of us missionaries are in our area but the wards here invited us to a few parties so we jumped back and forth! We even got permission to stay out till 9:30! Big deal haha

President and Sister Howell are now finished and President and Sister Camp are now running the NDBM! I haven't met them yet but I am excited for them!

Have a Great Week!

xoxo Sister Barlow
