8/29/21 Family Letter

 Sweet Eve,

I get to start your letter this week!  I am so excited because I got another calling (in addition to the music calling).  I am  the YW specialist over Temple and Family History!  I will be "on call" if they need more adults in the Sunday YW classes (so I still get to go to R.S.) but I can go to activities and "float" from class to class or activity to activity.  I am so happy I get to be in there with Mari!  I feel blessed to have been able to serve in YW at the same time as each of you girls!  So far, my assignment will be to work with the YW who are on the Temple and Family History committee (Diane and Becca Goble) to support/encourage them as we go into each YW home to teach them how to add memories in the Family Search app.  I'm excited to get started!

Snowbird was wonderful!  I had a great time with my Carden friends.  My presentation went well but the laptop died after the 2nd slide.  Time to get a new laptop that will hold a charge longer than an hour.  The technology hiccup didn't seem to affect the outcome.  The other teachers said they really my presentation.  This week at Carden I will be setting up my classroom and organizing the orchestra room.  Something interesting:  as part of our training, we were advised to use prayers from a variety of religions, not just "the predominant religion" for our area.  Word came that some students wanted to pray their way (Catholic) and cross themselves but didn't because no one else was doing it.  They gave us little packet of prayers we can rotate through so that all feel included.  I love learning about things that are dear to our brothers and sisters.  We all love our Savior!

This weekend has been one of canning.  We did salsa, peaches, and "Pretty Peach Jam".  I also made homemade marinara because we had so many tomatoes.  Plums and apples are almost ready too.  I think we are going to open our trees to the neighborhood because we have much more than we will need.  We are very blessed!

I hope you're feeling better.  Have you noticed any improvement?  How is your teaching pool?  How is Nichole?  Did you ever get your fall care package?  I hope the cookies were still good by the time it got to you.  Do you need us to send you anything?

Funny story:  I went on a walk last week and a bunch of the ladies from the neighborhood were out with their little kids. When this group of littles saw Joey they shouted,  "Oh cute puppy" so I took Joey over to them.  He was so happy to play with them.  Some of them were nervous but he soon warmed their hearts.  Joey did some of his circus tricks and they cheered.  I had Joey jump on one boy's back.  The boy said, "Wow!  He is a fun dog!"  He's right!  He's a cute little floofer boi!  I'm glad he could bring them joy!

I hope you have a wonderful week.  You are doing a great work.  Heavenly Father loves you so much!  We love you too!

This week has been pretty wild. Grace answered my asking with a yes, Cole's dad got covid so he couldn't come down and I had to cancel the double date I had planned,
I went to a drama social and party one day after another, and I absolutely bombed the audition cut for MDT. but I only really have homework in MDT and FHS (marriage and family relations), so that's nice.
Hope you're well!

Millie,

I am curious to hear how teaching the families have gone.  Hopefully it has been very successful.

We got a lot of things finished this week.  I had my cousin Jessica (Aunt Debbie's daughter) and her husband Dan over for a quick visit.  Grandma Barlow brought them over to look at the kitchen.  They are considering a remodel.  They also came to look at our plumbing problem.  We have our valves by the washer and dryer that are too corroded to take off the old hoses so we can replace the machines.  Dan is a handyman.  I now call him Handyman Dan.  Jessica bullied me into letting Dan take a look at it.  Dan got mean with a wrench and got the old values off.  I'm glad he was there.  If I were to try it I would have tried to unscrew them in a way that would have likely broke a few things.  We went to Lowe's and bought new valves and Dan screwed them on. We were able to call Lowes and have them install the washer and dryer.  We also had the TV installed.  It all happened on the same day.  The room is finished.  It looks great.

Tiffany spent her day off canning salsa.  She had one day off before she starts working next week and she picked all the tomatoes and made salsa.  We spent all of yesterday canning peaches.  We also made peach jam.  It has been a busy weekend.  We all needed a good Sunday to rest.  Most of the family was able to do that.  We ate at the Wilfert's tonight with the Yonks.  Tiffany was called to work with the YW.  She has been struggling with her calling for a bit.  She needs to have a calling where she is working with people and the Chorister can be a bit lonely.  We are celebrating her chance to work with the YW.

Love you kid.  We are very proud of the work you are doing.  Try your hardest to do your best and it will be enough.

Love,

Dad
