Hello
I just handed in my two weeks notice. I can't do all the rehearsals and school work on top of work. They're not very happy with me.
I had my choir "retreat" this week. Three days of four hour practices, and that was really fun. My people are choir people.
Youth conference was yesterday, and I'm super sore. We did a ropes course in provo, and some canoeing on the side.
I'm not looking forward to school, either, but it should be a fun year.
I love ya
Hyrum
Sweet Eve,
How's your head? I can't wait to hear how you are doing. What are some things that you have learned during your "Concussion Vacation"? J/K I know it wasn't a very fun time, but I WOULD like to hear what you learned. I hope you're doing better. We've been praying for you. We love you!
Skies here have been smoky for days. It's really hard to breathe. It smells like a campfire. All the smoke is from the California wildfires. The air pressure is forcing all of the smoke down to the valley floor. The weather forecast on the weather app reports "Smoky". I hope this doesn't last too much longer. How are the beautiful skies in North Dakota? I hope they are bright and clear for you.
The fireplace finisher guy comes in the morning. I think it will take him a few days to complete the project. I'll send a picture.
This week in my scripture study I studied about the Good Samaritan. I studied it from a new perspective: as if Christ were the Good Samaritan and we were the man, broken on the side of the road. It was a beautiful story about the life of Christ and what Christ has done for us (and what He will yet do). Christ's atonement covers so much more than our sins. It covers all the things we are not good at or where we feel weak and insecure. Us + Christ = More. He can help us do/be more.
I love you and hope you have a wonderful week. Breathe some fresh air for us!
MomMillie,
How has your week been? Been busy? It must be a challenge to do nothing as a missionary. We fasted for you today. We are all hoping you complete your full recovery soon.
The valley has been very smokey this past week. We have had all the fires in the West send their smoke this way. While I was driving around on Friday I kept expecting to see flames around every corner. It smells like we are right by a campfire. The air quality is the worst in the world. We could not see the mountains on either side of the valley. Your Mom is really struggling. It is leaving her throat very sore. We all have headaches.
Emma took us to see the Musical 1820. It is a show about Joseph Smith. It was good. Some of the songs and choreography were amazing. Others were very Utah County. It was short. It lasted 1.5 hours. They are hoping to take the show to Off Broadway in NYC. The girls really liked the soundtrack. Honestly, I was just hoping to survive. It was better than I expected. Emma had a dance concert this last weekend. She still has it. She was really good. I recognized most of the dancers as past students. As a whole they were not as athletic as they were in high school. It felt like some of them were trying to hold on to their "glory years" of dancing. It was a lot of modern dancing so we had very little understanding of what was happening at times. Matt and I LOL'd a couple times and had to be warned by Tiffany to be careful. Parents were everywhere. Emma was great but I think she shines more in Hip Hop or Jazz. I think as a whole we prefer to watch Hip Hop and Jazz.
We have really enjoyed watching the Olympics this year. I occasionally call everyone around the TV to watch some last second heroics of some kind. USA is dominating the medal count. We have a high excellence standard. Tiffany and I were reflecting on how the USA team is so good at the Olympics but when it comes to STEM categories we struggle globally. Tiffany determined that while we struggle with STEM we dominate recess!
Heal up kid. Get back your strength. The Work will still be there once you are 100%. We will do our best from here to unite our Faith and get you a few extra angels to help you out.
Love,
Dad
