1/3/21 "you look like a pirate"
Hello! I hope you're all staying warm hahahha!
We had a great week this week. We had a really fun New Year! I'm starting to see that as a missionary you kind of forget about holidays. We just spent the night (really till 10:30) playing Uno Flip with the other sister we live with. Nothing crazy! But it was a fun break to celebrate!
We had MLC this week! It was virtual so no crazy road trip to Bismarck this time. We talked a lot about resolutions. If you've seen my post on facebook you can skip this bit, but I have a spiritual goal to trust God more! This next year ill be finishing my mission and going to school and so much can happen. I just don't want to worry about it so I'm going to let God take control and see what he wants for me this year.
We started the week down in Chadron Nebraska. I was on an exchange with Sister Collett for a few days! I love that small town. We had some really great contacts and visits and finished it off over the next day or so visiting some people in their outlying areas (Custer, Pringle, and Hot Springs). We drove about 250 miles that day (rip their mileage allotment) But we met a lot of great people and gained more trust in the members by taking to trip to them so I think it was a win all around.
On Wednesday we were finally able to get a meeting planned with our ward mission leader and he wanted to go visit some less active families with us. It was a great idea, but we had a lesson to get to, so we had to leave a bit early, but the elders were there so no worries right? The home was placed on a very narrow road with no parking on the street. So our WML parked in their driveway leaving us no room, and then proceeded to guide us into the small space he left. Long Story short, he led us right into the back end of the less active members car... Well in all the chaos, we had to leave for our lesson and we forgot to tell them that we hit their car... Luckily they have no damage on their car but our little RAV4 got a little crunched in the same spot we just got fixed last week. We felt horrible about it all night once we realized we hit and run. So we got up early and made them cookies and went and visited them and explained the situation. And they were SO NICE about it! They really didn't care since there was no damage to their car. (tender mercy for us) and then even asked us about the people we were teaching and about the work in the area. They seemed to totally overlook the fact that we hit their car. The moral of this story I share is that we should follow the spirit especially when driving, and that God really does bless us missionaries. I was not the one driving but i'm grateful that my comp is okay from the incident.
We got invited over for lunch at a different less active home. The mother of the family is the only active one but all her sons were home and we had a few gospel discussions! One of the sons is really into music, and I showed him the Facebook page and a few videos. This guy may or may not have been using at the time, but he said to me... "sister barlow, you look like you'd be a pirate. Your next music video you should play your cello on a skateboard with that stick (end pin) on the board and a title of liberty sailing from your cello as you skate". Needless to say, I want to do this video so badly. The rest of the meal we as a group talked about goals to get us closer to christ. All her sons gave good goals and I really feel like it was a success! Since her family hasn't been to church in a very long time.
I found this quote in my scriptures that I wrote down at home MTC.
" I am part of the fellowship of the unashamed. The dye has been cast, I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I won't look back, let up, slow down, or be still. My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, My future is secure. I am finished and done with small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, worldly talking, cheap living and dwarfed goals. I no longer needed preeminence, position, promotions, or popularity. I don't have to be right, first, recognised, praised, or rewarded. I now live by faith. lean on his presence, walk with patience, and labor with power. My pace is set, my gait is fast, my goal is heaven. My toad is narrow, my way is rough, my companions are few, my guide is reliable, my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, divided or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice. hesitate inthe presence of adversary, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder and the pool of popularity or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I won't give up, shut up, or let up, until I have stayed up, stored up, and paid up for the cause of Christ I uch go until he comes, give until I drop, preach all I know and work until he stops me. And when he returns for his own, he will have no problem recognizing me. My banner is clear" - Henry B Eyring
I hope you all had an excellent week! We are hoping to put our friend Natacha on a date for baptism this next week. We've had a few mid-week lessons with her. She has been praying about the church and the Book of Mormon, and has received her witness that it's true. But she is still waiting on her answer to be baptized. She really has come a long way since we started teaching her a few weeks ago! She comes from a Jewish background so we are able to find a lot similarities with Christ' life and with her childhood and it's all making sense to her. So if you would keep her in your prayers we would really appreciate it!
Love you heaps!
