1/9/21 Family Letter

 HI Eve!!

THis week was rough but good!
Going back to school was rough but good.
I got "passing grade'' in Math.
( B+ which is the lowest grade we can have as SBOs)
Young men Young womens were fun! We welcomed the new girls and wrote letters to our future selves.
HYRUM DID SO GOOD IN THE MDT REVIEW!!!!!!! SO GOOD!!!!
I sat with my friends Miles, Naomi, and Cece. Miles and I met into the Woods.
I tried to engage in conversation with him but he didn't seem like he wanted to talk.
Some of the goals I have for this next year are to workout regularly, study regularly, be kinder in general to people,
to feel healthier, to work harder on voice/ piano etc.
Anyway Hope your week was amazing!!!
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
xoxo Mari Barlow

Hey Eve!
The first performance of the review went great, and I'm looking forward to having a break after the one tomorrow.
Grades are questionable, but after the 2nd quarter I had, I think I'll be ok. Mostly B's aint bad for missing half your classes.
That's really it for me! I just gotta keep to my youth goals, and life should work out.
love ya sis

Hyrum

Sweet Eve,
It was so kind of you to write that little service tribute to Hyrum.  You are such a kind sister!  He seems to be doing much better emotionally.  He thought he would do better after Mama Mia and after getting a chance to rest...and he was right. He is getting back to his old fun self again. He did a fantastic job on his MDT review.  We got it on film.  I will try to send you a snippet.

Mari has a dance concert at OHMS this Wednesday.  I will film it too.

This first week back at school seemed like it was a month long.  Most of Carden's teachers are out sick or quarantined.  The poor substitutes are dealing with students who act crazy with change.  The students have been out at recess more than usual.  Orchestra starts again tomorrow.  It will be good to get back to it.  I've also decided to teach a Songwriting Workshop (from Carnegie Hall) to my 7th graders.  Maybe they will like it. All of SL County is under a mask mandate. So many schools are on the verge of going online again. Truthfully, I wouldn't mind shutting Carden down for a while.

Today was Mindi Meadow's Ward Conference.  It's always good to have the Stake leaders there.  Since COVID, I haven't seen many of these Stake friends.  It was good to see them again. The theme for Ward Conference is D&C 4:5....Faith, Hope, and Charity.  Anna Wenerstrom played piano (Nearer My God to Thee)  for the special musical number. It was very peaceful.

The weather here has been really warm (60 degrees some days!)  I was able to go work outside in the sun on Saturday. I'm sorry about your really cold temperatures.  I saw your video of pouring boiling water in the freezing cold.  I always wondered what that would be like...SCIENCE!  I also noticed some pretty cute pictures of different people that you drew.  Go Eve!

This week, in Jesus the Christ, I learned how Christ submitted to the will of His Father.  He wouldn't  "give up the ghost" until the Atonement was all the way complete.  I can't begin to imagine how much self-control it would take to submit to ultimate suffering, knowing that you had the power to end it at any time, yet choosing not to.  To think that He did all that for us!  It is incomprehensible!

We love you so much!
Have a wonderful week!
💜 Mom

Millie,

This was a challenging week for the whole family. It has been hard to get back into the swing of a normal week.  It was a very slow week and a very fast weekend.  Crazy cold (Utah standards) all week and a really warm weekend.  Tiffany was able to get outside and trim some roses and soak up the sun.  She began to glow.  I noticed she was smiling as she walked around the backyard with a shovel and a bucket.  She was grinning from ear to ear.  I asked her what she was doing assuming it was something worthy of her expression.  She was walking around shovel dog poo. She had a very fulfilling afternoon.  We spent the morning getting a DI load together and dropping it off.  The Riverton DI had a line of over 50 cars.  We went to the West Jordan DI where there was no line.  We found out from the Sisters they have started calling West Jordan Wee-Jo.  He made fun of them with cause.

Hyrum's MDT was a good show.  Hyrum did great as Tevye in the Fiddler number.  He has a few other songs we had some short solos in.  We are very proud of him.  Mari's dance concert is this week.  It will be a great week of the kids showing off their talents. We have a very high COVID rate right now.  We are very close to shutting down the schools again.  We had another reminder of President Nelson's letter in August about wearing masks in church.  We are all hoping for the best.

Not much to share this past week.  We have been trying to get back into a routine.  We are hoping you are having success in increasing your teaching pool.  Love you kid.  Keep trying to and good things will happen.

Love,

Dad
