Nothing much to report. We made valentines gifts for all the 16-18 year old girls in the ward as priests, and that was pretty cool.
The spirit bowl happened and the seniors won (obviously, they always skew the results) but juniors would have come in second if they hadn't counted penny wasr as an event.
the musical's been progressing well, but beyond that, i haven't done much can't wait to hear from you
love ya
Hyrum
Sweet Eve,
Happy Valentine's Day!
Did you get the package we sent for you and all the other sisters in your apartment? Also, we were able to get you 5 new pairs of garments so far! We will get you more as they become available. Would you like us to send those to you now or wait until you get home?
Mindi Meadows got a new Relief Society Presidency! The new presidency is: Suzi Neerings, President Ashley Rogers, 1st Counselor Shanel Ludlow, 2nd Counselor Lisa Timm, Secretary
Pretty exciting stuff! I haven't gone to Relief Society in a long time because they have needed me in YW. My challenge is never knowing where or when I will be needed in YW...I don't even know if I will be invited to Girl's Camp. I don't mind being "on call"...I suppose that is similar to being a missionary...but I'm a planner and I like to know these things. We've had some wonderful success with the "Family History Gals" as we've been going on visits to the girls in their class. These Family History Gals have been setting up their own appointments and then leading out in teaching their classmates how to do family history and indexing. I'm really proud of them. They will make great missionaries someday. I really love serving in YW...it's my favorite place to serve!
The weather here is getting warmer...mid 50's and sunny. Most of the kids are not wearing coats at recess. It's nice! After seeing your sunshine lamp to fight winter blues, we bought a few for our house. I really like it! I am excited for the days to be longer. I am looking forward to more daylight hours to do things when I get home from work.
School is going well, except one of my students has been in the hospital with some kind of a weird bacterial infection that required surgery to save her life. She is still very sick. She is one of my 5th grade violas. I am bringing her family dinner and a little gift tomorrow.
Rocky's baptism was yesterday. He got baptized with 2 of his other cousins. Hyrum played piano for the prelude/postlude music and I played for the singing. Hyrum did a wonderful job, especially with the hymns. As for me, it seems to be getting easier the more I do it.
What are you studying right now? I have really enjoyed learning more about the Abrahamic Covenant. Good for you for fulfilling part of the Abrahamic Covenant as you share the good news of the gospel with the world. I would love to hear some of your insights regarding the "Come Follow Me" study.
Have you met any more interesting people? We pray for you everyday. We pray that people who are willing to let the Lord prevail in their lives, will find you and the other missionaries.
I love you so much!
MomMillie,
It looks like things have been warming up for you. We have been hitting the high 50s. Hopefully the coldest is behind you and things will start to thaw.
I had my Baking with Ben Episode 2. I led my team in making crostinis and Raspberry Mousse Pie. They were very basic recipes. It was interesting that those who struggled the most were the women in the group. Some of them did not have baking sheets. They used sheets of foil instead. I take for granted how skilled we are in baking. It was successful. They really liked the crostinis we made. You can;t go wrong with cheese and bacon.
We had Rocky's baptism this past weekend. Rocky was baptized with 2 other cousins. it got a little crowded. Hyrum played prelude music. Tiffany played for the hymns. Hyrum made friendly with one of Eliza's nieces and got her number. We have been encouraging him to be more proactive in asking for girl's phone numbers. He came away with a big smile and a new number for the phone. They have been texting all weekend.
I get a chance to provide some training for the Stake this week. I get to review how to set Ward Goals in regards to Missionary Work. I have a lot to say and only 20 min to say it. I'm having a hard time delivering the message in a way that will not offend. Some of our Wards do not understand what we are trying to do. We have explained it a few times and the message is still not being received. I hope I can figure out a way to get it done correctly.
We were planning to go to Bryce Canyon next week until we discovered that Hyrum does not update his activities on our calendar very well. They scheduled the Sweethearts Dance the same weekend as President's Day. Tiffany was very disappointed. Good news for you is that we moved the trip to August. It might conflict with your FSY commitment but at least it gives you a chance to join us.
Keep up the good work and stay warm. Good things come as you exercise faith.
Love,
Dad
