Where to start
I asked a girl to prom, but I haven't gotten a response yet. I don't know what that's about.
Yesterday was a very busy day. I went to a workshop hosted by the BYU Young Ambassadors, and they made us dance for six hours.
Then I went and stood in line for an hour to save a place so we (me, Mari, Matt and Emma) could sit near the court in the student section. It was a really cool game!
Then I sang a solo in sacrament meeting today. "A Believer's Prayer". Cool song.
Well, that's about it! Love ya!
Hyrum
Sweet Eve,
We have a few new Sister missionaries: Sister Essex is still here, but now we have Sister Clark from Oregon and Sister Gourdhammer from Virgina. It looks like a fun trio. I'm glad we still have Sister Essex. Whenever I am around the Sister Missionaries, I miss you even more. I love the missionaries! It's almost like hanging out with you.
Here's a funny story for you: Last week, a news report told about a BYU student who blew up his dorm room. Apparently, this student was making homemade rocket fuel. He would make it in batches and store it under his bed. He was making it so he could take it out to the west desert and blow stuff up. (He made it with a bunch of stuff you can get at the grocery store...like sugar and water...) His roommates didn't think anything about what their weird roommate was doing because he was always doing weird stuff. For example, they said that one time he caught a fish at Utah Lake and kept it alive in a bin in their dorm. Basically, they left him alone with his experiments. Well....here's the funny part.... the weird kid who blew up the dorm room was Hayden Welton's roommate! Hayden and his brother, Ben, shared a dorm with this kid! The explosion set off the sprinklers and put 10 inches of water in their room. It ruined their computers and everything else. When they had to evacuate, they were only in basketball shorts and a tee-shirt, standing outside in the snow. Sally Welton said they were living at Heritage Halls (I think)...Anyway....
Also, so sad about Russia's attack on Ukraine! I don't know how much you know or have heard about this but so many are worried that this could turn into WWIII. We are all praying for the Ukrainians and the Russians because we have good saints in both locations. Many Russian people don't want this war, but their dumb leader, Putin is a power-hungry man who thinks he's a Russian Tzar. The Church closed down the temple in Kyiv. It's so interesting to me how quickly things can change in this world. I don't know if this will be THE war spoken of in the book of Revelation, but all the players are there.
On to better topics...Hyrum did a beautiful job singing in Sacrament Meeting today. I recorded him during one of his rehearsals. I'll try to send it to you. Mari taught the lesson in YW today. I didn't get to see it, but I'm sure she did great! Emma and Matt took us on a tour of their new house. It will be beautiful! It's an innovative concept as they build 'up' rather than 'out'. Mari and I are singing in the Stake Conference choir. That's going well. Today, Andrea Sligting asked if I would head up the food committee to feed the visiting authority, Elder Clayton, and the Stake Council/spouses when they come for Stake Conference. I'll start working on that. I'm going to price out brisket and have Dad smoke it (if it's not too expensive). I'm trying to form the committee with representation from each ward. It's also the same night as Hyrum's prom so I hope he can make arrangements for dinner. (Restaurant is always good..right?)
:I hope your week goes well. We remember that you can't call until Tuesday, but we will be excited to talk to you then. We've been praying for you, hoping things went really well this week. I was thinking about the 'way' to do missionary work...there are many "ways" to do missionary work. As long as you are following the Spirit, you will be right. I was thinking about how when the early missionaries went out, the Lord told them they could go to the East, West, North, or South...it didn't matter to Him. They could travel by land or water...He would help them. I love all the missionary accounts from the Doctrine and Covenants.
Keep the faith. Work hard. Know that you are loved!
MomMillie,
Have you found a way to stay warm yet? We had a cold spell and I kept reminding myself that it is not the same as you are experiencing. Things have to eventually warm up right? We got two new Sisters. Sister Essex is still here. She asked today when you get home and was bummed that she will likely get transferred before you return. Joining her we now have Sister Clark from Oregon, well really from Utah. She was born in Utah and the family moved to Oregon. Her original assignment is Norway. She is a redhead Irish gal with a lot of spirit. We also have Sister Gordhamer from a lot of places. Her family moved a lot for work. She moved to Singapore twice and all over the US. She did not talk much and was very reserved. We have a major focus on Missionary Work right now as the Sisters still do not have a teaching pool. We hope to have someone for them soon.
Hyrum sang in church today and did a very good job. He was so proud of himself he could not help but smirk as he made his way back to the pew. Grandma Barlow was able to come hear him. She came a little late as she went to 2 wrong churches before she made it to the right one. Tiffany has done a great job in creating opportunities for members of the Ward to provide a musical number during Sacrament meeting. This was one of the best experiences so far. I think it was really good for Hyrum's confidence.
We were able to tour Emma and Matt's new home. The home is as big as our first home but far better use of space. It feels a little cramped but will be great for a first home. The neighborhood is built in a way that the homes are very close together. Almost right on top of each other. 6 homes all share a driveway. It looks great and will be a great home for them. The home made me feel a little claustrophobic until we got to their kitchen. Their kitchen is awesome. Now they have to hope it will get finished on time. Not too early and not too late.
That was my week kid. I spent most of the week with a cold and took a few days off to recover. We are all better now and are ready for a normal week. Good luck in your finding efforts. Do your part and good things will happen.
Love,
Dad
