3/15/22 Now How About That
Hey! We had a last minute zone conference yesterday so I wasn't able to write.
I wish I could have more things to write about, but this week was pretty slow.
Zone Conference was awesome per usual. It was my last one, and I thought they would have had me give my departing testimony at the end like they usually do. They instead announced that I get to do it in front of the whole mission the week before I fly home. Im not sure if that makes it any better haha! But I was grateful I was able to attend. They talked a lot about Christlike qualities and how they help us be unique in the work. God is just so cool so create such variety in all of us. I played one of the musical numbers on my cello accompanied by an elder on guitar. It was honestly really sad :( I've played in almost every zone conference and/or special meeting since I came out. I'm so blessed to have the opportunity but man that was hard to realize that it was my last one :(
The great news about the week is we called our friend Steve who works at Walmart. and he actually picked up! He is taking care of his sick mother right now and we finally were able to help him realize the importance of God and the Plan of Salvation! We are teaching him now, which makes us super happy! His life has not always been full of goodness and joy, but now he is finding the lasting joy in Christ. We read scriptures over the phone a few times a week with him and he always says in his midwestern accent " now how about that!", as he learns something new! We really love teaching Steve!
We made it up to Mayville on Thursday and we met with Lois. I wish I could accurately describe Lois. She is just one of a kind. She has a sense of humor like a 12 year old deacon if im being honest. She's the one who lives behind the single pine tree if you remember that from last week. She has been taught almost everything but since we've started teaching her we have made a goal to teach and clarify all her doctrinal questions. . We taught her Plan of Salvation this time, because for some reason it was the one lesson they hadn't talked anything about. We started off with the question "where did we come from?" she looks us dead in the eye and says "you sisters really want to have this talk right now" and then falls over laughing and my companion and I look at each other with the same expression and realization of why they haven't taught her this yet. We go through the whole lesson and we are usually super grateful to have one of her member neighbors join us too, but this dear brother would give a comment about something teaching it as doctrine, and it would not be true! So then we would have to clarify it and it was just wild. If you haven't caught on yet this was a train wreck of a lesson. We finally were able to get ahold of leading the conversation again and finished, My poor new companion! Welcome to North Dakota!
We had a fun Relief Society activity this week. It was a culture night so a few families brought food from their home countries (reminds me of my families heritage nights back home). There was a sister who brought a few dishes from Venezuela. I wish I knew what she fed us but it was pretty cool! There was a family with Danish heritage and they brought Lefse (potato pancake with sugar), Krumkake (sweet batter fried into a cone) and an Almond Cake. 10/10 would eat any of these again.
In my personal study this week I kept re-reading Moroni 8. When people here Moroni 8 they think "infant baptism". But as I've studied it I think of Gods mercy to all of his children. He loves us and his purpose to help us learn and grow while in our time of mortality on earth is so apparent in these verses. He would never doom a child who has not had the opportunity to decide to choose the right and endure to the end to darkness. This goes for all ages! For those who have never been given the opportunity to accept Jesus Christ will also be given that opportunity in the Spirit World. If he really didn't care about us he wouldn't give us mercy and grace. Please go read this chapter and see how it applies to you today! God loves you!
Love you all!
